AT&T brings Rollover Data to counter T-Mobile’s Data Stash

American wireless carrier AT&T, following the footsteps of T-Mobile’s Data Stash strategy, today announced Rollover Data.

Incidentally, AT&T is bringing back the Rollover Data plan.

The new plan will be effective from January 25, said AT&T.

AT&T, which is expanding its 4G LTE network, said its new and current AT&T Mobile Share Value customers will receive Rollover Data feature without paying anything extra.

Mobile Share Value customers can roll over their unused, shareable plan data in a particular month to the next month. Rollover Data benefits the whole family or business – across all smartphones and devices on the same Mobile Share Value plan.

“Rollover Data is an added benefit of being an AT&T Mobile Share Value customer and it’s another way that we’re saying thanks to our more than 50 million plus Mobile Share Value subscribers,” said Glenn Lurie, president and CEO, AT&T Mobility.

In addition to Data Stash from T-Mobile, which will be effective from January, T-Mobile announced that it will start each customer Data Stash with 10 GB of 4G LTE data for free. AT&T did not counter this offer by making any challenging offering.

Last month, Lynnette Luna, principal analyst at Current Analysis Consumer Group, said: “Data Stash isn’t a huge differentiator for T-Mobile as the carrier never charged overage fees to begin with, although it throttled data speeds.”

“However, the feature will strengthen T-Mobile’s value carrier image as it allows users to realize the worth of their data service cost, especially as T-Mobile continues to strengthen its network coverage.”

T-Mobile’s latest Un-carrier move automatically rolls over a subscriber’s unused data allotment for use up to a year.
