Alcatel-Lucent leads small cell equipment market in 2013: ABI Research

Alcatel-Lucent is leading the small cell equipment market in 2013 followed by Airvana, Cisco, and ip.access, said ABI Research.

Broadcom is leading the semiconductor baseband SoC market, ahead of Intel, Texas Instruments, and Freescale.

ABI Research said Alcatel-Lucent is leading in 3G and Contela leading in 4G in the small cell equipment market last year.

It said semiconductor vendors Broadcom leads in 3G and Cavium leads in 4G.

“The year 2013 saw two significant acquisitions in the small cell ecosystem with Cisco acquiring leading equipment vendor Ubiquisys and Intel acquiring the wireless communications semiconductor business of Mindspeed, signalling the entry of two well-funded and dominant players into the small cells market,” says Nick Marshall, research director.

Earlier, Dell’Oro Group said the Mobile Radio Access Network (RAN) LTE equipment market for both macro and small cell radios will witness tremendous growth over the next five years, with LTE RAN revenue levels expected to outdo the RAN revenue peaks of GSM in 2007 and WCDMA in 2011.

Total RAN market — macro and small cell — to grow for a second consecutive year in 2014 and decline at a low single-digit CAGR between 2014 and 2018.
