Vodafone Ireland buys Complete Telecom to up enterprise business revenues

Telecom Lead Europe: Vodafone Ireland has acquired Irish firm Complete Telecom in a bid to improve revenues from its enterprise business.

Complete Telecom provides enterprise managed data network and fixed telecoms services, and is particularly strong in the Government and public sector.

Complete currently has about 300 customers.

Vodafone did not disclose financial details of the acquisition.

Vodafone Ireland’s enterprise director Anne O’Leary

Vodafone Ireland’s enterprise director Anne O’Leary said the move was part of the company’s aim to become the top provider of telecoms services for businesses and the public sector in the country. The new acquisition enables the company to offer its business and public sector customers bespoke fixed and mobile telecoms services.

Vodafone has been on a major acquisition spree. The mobile major has bought companies such as Interfusion, Perlico and part of BT’s business in Ireland, and Cable & Wireless on a global basis.

The deal with Complete also brings new expertise to Vodafone.

Vodafone said about 20 per cent of its revenues currently come from its enterprise managed data network, and it expects that to double over the next five years.

Globally, Vodafone has been focusing on enterprise business in order to rely less on voice segment.

In 2011-12, the enterprise revenues across the group grew by 2.2 percent to £9.9 billion. Enterprise revenues comprise about 23 percent of the revenues of the total Group. In Europe, they represent about 30 percent of the European revenues. The Vodafone Global Enterprise unit said the big multinational accounts grew 11 percent, primarily by greater account penetration.

Vodafone’s global growth strategy revolves around data, enterprise and emerging market growth. Announcing the 2011-12 financial result, Vodafone CEO Vittorio Colao said the company has a decreasing dependence on mature voice. 38 percent of revenue comes from voice.
