Turkcell, a telecom operator in Turkey, announced the opening of its data center in Izmir – as part of the strategy to secure data in its home market.
Turkcell Izmir Data Center ranks among the most significant investments made in the data center field, with a white space of 2,400 square meters and an indoor area of 14,500 square meters.
The telecom operator said Turkey’s data will be stored at Turkcell Data Center. Turkcell will be opening new data centers in Ankara next year, and Corlu later. With the new additions, the number of provinces where Turkcell invests in for data centers will reach four.
Kaan Terzioglu, CEO of Turkcell, said: “We will open Ankara and Corlu data centers in the upcoming two years. Once they are put into operation, our total volume of investments in next-generation data centers will reach TRY 2 billion.”
Turkcell is offering digital services such as BiP, fizy, lifebox, TV+ and Paycell. The new digital services helped Turkcell to achieve progress in keep Turkey’s data in Turkey. The data consumed in these Turkcell services accounts for 8.5 percent of the data across its own network.
“As Turkey’s largest data center and cloud services operator, we will reach a total white space capacity of 37,900 square meters upon the kick-off of our Ankara and Corlu data centers,” Kaan Terzioglu said.
