Telecom Italia makes $3.5 billion investment in nine months

Telecom Italia has made an investment of 3,233 million euros or $3,473 million towards Capex (capital spending) in the first nine months of 2015.

The Capex of Telecom Italia rose 22.5 percent or 593 million euros.

Telecom Italia invested 2,297 million euros (+505) in Italy and 930 million euros (+87) in Brazil in the first nine months of the year.

The increase in Capex in Italy, its domestic business, was due to the growth in investments dedicated to developing new generation networks and services.

Telecom Italia invested 412 million euros in new generation networks, representing more than 40 percent of total investments against 30 percent in the corresponding period of 2014. The telecom network operator has also made an investment of 117 million euros on extending the GSM licence for a further three years.

Industrial investments in the Brazil Business Unit increased 87 million euros compared to the first nine months of 2014 for the evolution of the industrial infrastructure and the sales support platforms.

Telecom Italia said its Capex in the third quarter of 2015 was 1.1 million euros (26.5 percent).

Future focus areas

Telecom Italia will be focusing on fixed ultrabroadband with fibre optic, mobile ultrabroadband, the development of new data centres to support cloud services, international fibre connections and the transformation of industrial processes as per its 2015-2017 Plan.

The telecom network operator will be investing more than 10 billion euros in Italy. Out of this, Telecom Italia will invest around 5 billion euros for NGN, LTE, Cloud computing, data centres, Sparkle and transformation. Telecom Italia aims to cover 75 percent of the population with fibre optic, and over 95 percent with 4G. Its main investment in Brazil will be for boosting 4G and 3G coverage.

Telecom Italia said its revenue fell 6.9 percent to 14,875 million euros or $15,978 million in the first nine months of 2015.

Telecom Italia generated revenues of 11,127 million euros from operations in Italy and 3,696 million euros from Brazil, while international wholesale revenue was 971 million euros.
