Reliance Communications reshuffles top team

Telecom service provider Reliance Communications has reshuffled its top management team.

Nilanjan Mukherjee, chief marketing officer of Reliance Communications, will become the head of CDMA business.

Ramesh Menon, who resigned as zonal head of Airtel, will be heading Reliance Communications’ GSM business.

Both will report to Gurdeep Singh, CEO of Reliance Communications wireless division, Economic Times reported.

The report also said Reliance Communications may sell its CDMA business and spectrum which can be used for launching 3G services. This is mainly aimed at reducing its huge debt currently at Rs 41,170 crore.

Reliance Communications

The new team at telecom operator is trying to bring back Reliance Communications to its earlier number two position from the current fourth position.

Gurdeep Singh, who joined Gurdeep Singh in 2012, focuses on data business and it started reflecting it on Reliance Communications revenue. But its profit took a beating in recent quarters due to its huge debt and 3G payments. In the second quarter of this financial year, RCOM recorded net profit of Rs 675 crore on revenue of Rs 5,835 crore.

The Anil Ambani-promoted Reliance Communications also hired several key professionals from rivals including Vodafone India.

The report says Amit Das from Vodafone India is now heading human resources while Munish Kanotra, ex-senior vice president, Bharti Airtel, is leading the post-paid and data business. Deepak Khanna from Tulip now heads the enterprise pie. Under the recast, Shamik Das, who was the chief operating officer of the overall company, will be allotted a new role.
