The provisional bids during the spectrum auction for 2100 MHz, 1800 MHz, 900 MHz and 800 MHz bands have reached Rs 102,215 crore on Saturday.
The Saturday bidding indicates a marginal increase from the Friday bid.
Telecom operators such as Bharti Airtel, Idea Cellular, Reliance Communications, Reliance Jio Infocomm, Aircel, Uninor, Vodafone and Tata Teleservices are bidding for strengthening their telecom presence in India.
These telecom operators have completed 6 rounds of bidding on Saturday and the number of bids reached today was 61 rounds.
Interestingly, there are no takers for 3G spectrum due to huge spectrum fee and the lack of viability of 3G segment in India. Indian telecom operators, which have bought 3G spectrum during the 2010 spectrum auction, are struggling to make profit from their fee paid for 3G spectrum five years ago.
The government said that bidding going on in 1800 MHz, 900 MHz and 800 MHz bands. At the end of 61st round, about 87 percent of the spectrum has been provisionally allocated to bidders. The provisional amount committed by bidders at the end of 61st round is Rs 102,215 crore.
“Majority of telecom service areas are going at a premium over reserve price. The competitive bidding is expected to continue. There is still spectrum, which is yet to be sold,” said a statement from the telecom ministry.
