Globe Telecom Q1 2014 revenues up 9%, broadband business income surges 12 percent

Globe Telecom today said its first quarter 2014 (Q1 2014) revenue rose 9 percent to P23.2 billion, while its net profit grew 9 percent to P3.4 billion.

Growth in both mobile and broadband customer bases have contributed to the revenue and profit increase, said Globe Telecom.

Globe President & CEO Ernest Cu said: “We remain confident in sustaining the growth throughout the year as Globe moves closer to the completion of our network and IT transformation programs.”

Globe Telecom said its mobile revenues rose 8 percent to P18.5 billion in the first quarter.

Its postpaid segment revenues grew 18 percent to P7.0 billion.

Postpaid subscriber base reached nearly 2.1 million in March this year.

The postpaid segment now contributes 38 percent of the company’s mobile revenues.

Its prepaid revenue rose 2 percent.

The company added 9.1 million new Globe Prepaid and TM new subscribers in the first quarter of 2014, up 25 percent year-on-year and 3 percent quarter-on-quarter.

Total mobile subscriber base reached 40.7 million at the end of the first quarter this year, from 35.1 million a year ago.

Broadband business revenue rose 12 percent to P2.8 billion, while broadband subscriber base increased 26 percent to 2.2 million, Globe Telecom said.

Fixed DSL subscriber base increased 11 percent, while wireless broadband users rose 30 percent during the quarter.

Globe Telecom’s fixed line data revenues enhanced 19 percent to P1.3 billion. The company said its fixed voice revenues rose 3 percent.
