Telecom Lead India: Vitesse Semiconductor, a provider of
IC solutions for carrier and enterprise networks, will associate with JDSU to
pair its quad channel VSC8248 Electronic Dispersion Compensation
(EDC) and Clock and Data Recovery (CDR) device with SFP+ 10GBASE-ZR DWDM
modules of JDSU.
Both companies are collaborating to demonstrate 10 Gbps
DWDM links beyond 100 km – exceeding the 80-km standard for 10GBASE-ZR
applications.
According to a company press release, Vitesse and JDSU
will demonstrate the EDC and SFP+ ZR technology at the OFC/NFOEC Expo 2012 in
Los Angeles, California.
The combination of SFP+ ZR modules modules with
Vitesse’s field-proven EDC/CDR products gives our customers a highly robust,
flexible, low cost solution for 80km links and beyond, extending our product
leadership in these Enterprise and Metro market applications,” said Richard
Interrante, director of connectivity product marketing at Vitesse.
Part of Vitesse’s FlexEQ adaptive equalization
technologies, Vitesse’s VSC8248 FFE/DFE EDC architecture delivers
good performance in excess of the 80km ZR target resulting in additional system
margin, link distance and/or improved OSNR/Chromatic Dispersion tolerance.
Furthermore, it supports multiple applications between
9.9 to 11.3 Gbps, including SONET/SDH, 10G Fibre Channel and 10G Ethernet.
JDSU’s initiative to support the ZR application in the
form of compact SFP+ modules means that ZR links can be achieved with
unprecedented front-panel port density and low power as well as minimal system
cost.
Achieving optical reaches of 80km and beyond has always
been an ultimate goal for each module format. The combination of Vitesse’s
EDC and JDSU’s SFP+ ZR enables longer optical links can be achieved
economically and at the highest front panel density possible,” said Andrew Schmitt,
directing analyst, optical at Infonetics.
Recently, BridgeWave Communications, a supplier of 4G millimeter wave backhaul solutions
selected Vitesse Semiconductor Corporation to use their Serval Mobile Access
Carrier Ethernet Switch Engine (VSC7418) in their
next-generation small cell and wireless backhaul equipment.
