Videotron Selects Samsung to Deploy Cloud-Native 5G and 4G Core in Canada

Videotron has selected Samsung Electronics to modernize its network infrastructure using Samsung’s 5G Non-Standalone (NSA) and 4G LTE Core Gateway solutions. The deployment strengthens Samsung’s presence in the Canada telecom market and builds on the companies’ long-standing RAN partnership.

Samsung Open RAN radios

The project focuses on delivering a cloud-native core network designed to improve reliability, flexibility and scalability while enabling seamless connectivity for consumers and enterprises.

Cloud-native 5G and 4G Core built on open ecosystem

Samsung will deliver a turnkey solution powered by cloud-native 5G and 4G Core technologies running on Dell PowerEdge servers equipped with AMD EPYC 9005 server CPUs and Red Hat OpenShift.

The deployment highlights the growing shift toward open and interoperable telecom infrastructure. By leveraging industry-standard hardware and Kubernetes-based hybrid cloud platforms, the solution enables faster innovation and more agile network operations.

Key benefits of the collaboration include:

Enhanced resilience and reliability for consistent user experiences

Automation-ready operations to simplify lifecycle management

Flexible scalability to support long-term network growth

Videotron expands digital-first strategy across Canada

Mohamed Drif, Chief Technology Officer of Videotron, said Samsung’s earlier success in delivering RAN infrastructure played a major role in the operator’s decision to expand the partnership to its core network.

The new platform supports Videotron’s plan to elevate services across Québec and expand its digital-first mobile and home internet brand nationwide. The cloud-native architecture aligns with Videotron’s long-term network evolution strategy and growing subscriber base.

Samsung strengthens end-to-end telecom leadership

The project extends Samsung’s end-to-end network capabilities, moving from RAN deployments into full core network delivery. Stephen Wiktorski, Vice President and Head of Networks at Samsung Electronics, said the deployment will help Videotron optimize performance, reduce operational complexity and enable scalable future-ready networks.

Samsung has been delivering cloud-native core solutions since 2015, supporting deployments from LTE to 5G standalone across markets including Canada, Korea, Japan and India. The company continues to integrate AI-driven automation and analytics into its telecom platforms as it transitions toward AI-native core networks.

Growing role in Canada’s telecom ecosystem

This deployment follows Samsung’s recent core network launches with other Canadian operators and its work in pioneering North America’s first roaming gateway. The latest collaboration reinforces Samsung’s expanding role in enabling advanced telecom services across the region. Videotron is Canada’s fourth-largest mobile carrier, serving 4.32 million mobile lines as of September 30, 2025. The company is a technology leader in Quebec, offering its Helix home entertainment and management platform and leading the region in high-speed internet access. Videotron had 1,259,300 TV subscribers, 1,736,400 internet subscribers, and 562,100 wireline telephony connections as of the same date.
