Twisted Pair Solutions, a provider in critical
communication applications for secure, real-time communications anywhere on any
device, has announced the launch of WAVE Communicator for Microsoft Lync, an
application for extending the voice capabilities of Microsoft Lync Server 2010
to mobile workers.
WAVE Communicator extends the reach of Microsoft Lync so
that office-based workers and mobile workers using smartphones or two-way
radios can simply and securely communicate via voice or text while sharing
valuable information such as status and presence.
“Businesses of all sizes are seeking greater
performance and productivity from their office-based and mobile workers through
increased collaboration,” said Tom Guthrie, CEO of Twisted Pair.
“Microsoft Lync has become the unified
communications platform of choice for thousands of businesses that are seeking
to drive more value from all forms of communication. With a WAVE-enabled
Lync deployment, businesses can achieve even greater efficiency and
productivity through instant access to all workers regardless of the communications
networks or devices they use,” Guthrie added.
Built on WAVE, the industry’s leading interoperability
platform, WAVE Communicator is integrated with Microsoft Lync, appearing as a
panel within Lync 2010 and displaying available communication channels.
These channels may include multiple two-way radio
networks, push-to-talk mobile talk groups using smartphones or broadcast
systems. When a Lync user wants to communicate with an individual or team they
simply click on the appropriate WAVE communication channel and talk.
In addition to providing instant access to communications
channels from within Lync 2010, WAVE Communicator has the ability to display
presence information on a Bing map from GPS-supported devices such as
smartphones and military and professional two-way radio systems.
This capability is extremely important when it is
essential to know where field resources are deployed and speaking with groups
of users instantaneously is required.
“Twisted Pair’s WAVE Communicator is a great example
of how the extensible Lync developer platform allows ISVs to extend voice and
data communications in ways that truly benefit enterprise and mobile
workers,” said Kirk Gregersen, senior director, Lync product management,
Microsoft Corp.
“Interoperability is of key importance to
Microsoft’s customers and Twisted Pair’s WAVE platform enables direct
communications with a whole range of additional communications networks,”
Gregersen added.
