TE Connectivity unveils AWS MIMO support for indoor DAS

TE
Connectivity (TE) announced that its InterReach Spectrum distributed antenna
system (DAS) now supports 2×2 multi-input, multi-output (MIMO) mode for
Advanced Wireless Service (AWS) frequencies of 1700 and 2100 MHz. This new
development now means that TE’s DAS products support multiple frequencies in
MIMO mode, including not only AWS but also 700MHz and 1900MHz.

38 percent
of US macro base stations are in a capacity-constrained state, requiring mobile
operators to find new ways to increase network capacity, according to a recent
Credit Suisse report.

MIMO mode is
tailor-made to address this problem because it uses multiple antennas to double
network throughput. Moreover, MIMO mode works by creating signal diversity
between multiple antennas, so it is ideally suited for DAS deployments inside
buildings, where the environment is broken up by walls, furniture, and
equipment.

MIMO mode is
being used and planned for use by carriers for LTE and other 4G services in the
US and abroad. Support of MIMO in its DAS products puts TE at the forefront of
equipment vendors helping mobile operators deliver these new services.

TE’s InterReach
Spectrum and InterReach Fusion DAS products are ideal for supporting MIMO
because they can support 2×2 MIMO transmission on a single cable versus
competing solutions which require duplicate cable infrastructure. This results
in quicker and more cost effective installations.

“AWS is
another emerging service that will see widespread deployment in the United
States, and MIMO mode will help ensure that wireless carriers will obtain the
network capacity they need to support 4G data services,” said Chris Jurasek,
vice president and general manager, Wireless and Services at TE.
