Symmetricom enables IEEE 1588v2 PTP in over 150 networks

Telecom Lead Europe:  Symmetricom, a provider
of precision time and frequency technologies, has deployed its PackeTime
Systems in more than 150 networks worldwide.

With its PackeTime Systems, the company has provided IEEE
1588v2 Precision Time Protocol (PTP) to these networks worldwide.

Since October 2011, Symmetricom has announced 50
deployments that take the total count to more than 150 this year.

IEEE 1588 is a standard for distributing synchronization
for operators and carriers over Ethernet network infrastructures. It is
expected that IEEE 1588 will be the primary synchronization solution in over 1
million Ethernet cell sites by 2015.

“IEEE 1588 is becoming a key synchronization
standard as networks transition from TDM to packet-based to support 4G/LTE
network requirements. We see this trend continuing and we look forward to
supporting the transition with a comprehensive portfolio of IEEE 1588
solutions,” said Manish Gupta, vice president of marketing and
business development for Symmetricom.

NSN, an early adopter of IEEE 1588 is working with
Symmetricom to deploy and develop PTP technologies.  NSN has already
deployed the standard in more than 80 networks.

“Rollouts of IEEE 1588 have definitely picked up as
more carriers move to Ethernet backhaul. Precise timing and synchronization
within the network are critical to operations, and our partnership with
Symmetricom has enabled a reliable migration to packet based infrastructure,”
said Giuseppe Targia, head of MBB Packet Networks product management,
Nokia Siemens Networks.

The company is enabling interoperability and cooperation
among members of the mobile ecosystem through its SyncWorld Ecosystem Program.
The program further supports the adoption of IEEE 1588 and next generation
networks.

China Mobile selects Symmetricom to deploy synchronous
Ethernet for PTN deployment

In January, China Mobile selected
Symmetricom’s TimeProvider 5000 Grandmaster Clock to deploy IEEE 1588
(PTP) and Synchronous Ethernet (SyncE) for its Packet Transport Network (PTN)
deployment.
