Sterlite Technologies today announced the launch of Sterlite Academy that aims at creating certified network professionals for setting up data networks for Digital India, Smart City and 4G projects.
The strategy of Sterlite Technologies is to assist telecom network operators which are investing in fiber networks to boost their data business. The company says less than 20 percent of mobile tower sites have a fiber backbone in India against 70-80 percent in the developed countries.
Indian telecom network operators are already making investment in optic fiber for backhaul networks to improve customer experience. Since untrained resources are deploying these networks currently, Indian telecoms are facing poor deployment quality, low reliability, low lifetime and high operating expenses.
Sterlite Academy aims to bring together its expertise in optical fiber network designing, building and management through best practices and research.
Anand Agarwal, CEO of Sterlite Technologies, said: “A challenge to improve broadband penetration is the lack of skilled work force in creation of data infrastructure. This is acting as a roadblock for many mission critical projects in both, public and private sectors.”
Sterlite Academy will enable the entire value chain involved in broadband network deployment to solve challenges of low lifetime and low reliability of currently deployed networks. This will help bring better broadband experience to India through high-speed internet.
Sterlite Tech is managing large-scale broadband network deployments in urban and rural areas through projects such as BharatNet, Network for Spectrum, Smart Cities, FTTH, 4G, among others.
Sterlite Academy will offer hands-on training and classroom sessions designed for the entire value chain in optical fiber cable deployment. The academy will offer courses in a lab setting based on the latest optical fiber technologies and offer certificates.
