Telecom Lead Asia: Spreadtrum Communications, a
fabless semiconductor provider in China with technology in 2G, 3G and
4G wireless communications standards, has launched its new platforms called the
SC8810 and the SC6820.
The SC8810 is 1GHz TD-SCDMA Android platform, while the
SC6820 is 1GHz TD-SCDMA Android platform. Both the platforms support Android
2.3 and Android 4.0 designs.
With these designs, our customers are targeting
a $50-100 retail segment, unsubsidized. We have now secured more than
200 design wins for our 1GHz TD-SCDMA and EDGE/WiFi Android platforms, and we
are expecting to see volume shipments of more than one million units during the
second quarter,” said Leo Li, president and CEO of Spreadtrum Communications.
The company said that both the SC8810 and SC6820 have
been adopted by China and global OEMs on large scale to address the
growing demand for low-cost smartphones in China and emerging
markets.
With the support for Android 2.3 and Android 4.0 platforms,
both the platforms deliver best-in-class power consumption and demonstrate
graphics/web performance on par with globally popular premium smartphone
models, while supporting sub-$100 unsubsidized retail price points.
The solutions are designed into handsets that are
expected to launch commercially starting in May.
Samsung selects Spreadtrum baseband platform for Samsung GALAXY

Spreadtrum Communications announced that its TD-SCDMA
baseband platform, is equipped in the TD-SCDMA version of the Samsung GALAXY
Note for China Mobile subscribers.
GALAXY Note is Samsung’s second smartphone powered by
Spreadtrum basebands, following the Samsung GALAXY S II which started shipping
in China in September, 2011.
A few months back, the company introduced its first
TD-LTE baseband modem, the SC9610. The modem is designed with 40nm CMOS
silicon and integrates multiple communication standards into a single-chip
design, including multiband TD-LTE and TD-SCDMA and quad-band EDGE/GPRS/GSM.
