Wireless network vendor Radisys announced its Media Resource Function (MRF) supply deal with Nokia Networks.

Nokia Networks will utilize Radisys’ MRF product as the media processing foundation for its Voice over LTE (VoLTE) and Voice over Wi-Fi (VoWi-Fi) solution for standards-based IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) deployments.
As part of the deal, Nokia Networks will use Radisys’ Virtualized MRF and MPX-12000 Broadband MRF to provide flexibility to select the media processing solution for VoLTE/VoWi-Fi service for its its mobile operator customers.
Michael Clever, senior vice president of Core at Nokia Networks, said: “We’re able to provide operators with the right media processing solution for their VoLTE deployment, whether it’s a virtualized solution or not.”
Mobile operators can deploy a Radisys MRF for one initial service, typically VoLTE, and rapidly deploy additional applications while using the same MRF as a common media processing resource. Mobile operators can simplify their network, reduce Capex and Opex, and accelerate new service introduction by supporting multiple real-time communications services with one media processing IMS architecture.
