Nokia Networks has bagged a 3G network deal from VNPT – Net, a state-owned operator and subsidiary of the Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group (VNPT).

Vinaphone aims to significantly enhance its network coverage and double peak download speeds to 42 Mbps on the 3G networks.

Under the contract, Nokia Networks delivered its Single RAN radio access network, core network elements, partner products and services expertise to boost VNPT – Net’s infrastructure serving Vinaphone 3G services.

Nghiem Phu Hoan, general director of VNPT – Net, said: “We enhanced the overall efficiency of our 3G network, which is set to deliver even better network coverage, capacity and throughput – factors that are key towards ensuring complete customer satisfaction.”

Nokia Networks has 210 3G radio customers and serves more than 1 billion global subscribers in its 3G networks.

Harald Preiss, head of Southeast Asia, Nokia Networks, said: “In addition to further strengthening VNPT – Net’s infrastructure and preparing the groundwork for 4G services, this engagement also serves as a very strong proof-point of our execution and implementation capabilities.”
