Ericsson has announced a new technology contract with MTN Group to deploy Ericsson Charging and Ericsson Mediation as part of the Ericsson Business and Operations Support Systems (BSS) portfolio.
The agreement encompasses the modernization of MTN Group’s BSS ecosystem, aiming to enhance capabilities that support exploring new monetization streams and business models, particularly in the realms of 5G and Internet of Things (IoT).
Ericsson does not reveal the size of the deal for the deployment of BSS technology for MTN.
This partnership is pivotal in driving MTN Group’s cloud-native transformation, aligning closely with the accelerated implementation of MTN Group’s Ambition 2025 strategy. The strategy aims to establish one of the largest and most valuable platforms leveraging connectivity and infrastructure businesses across consumer, enterprise, and wholesale segments.
Under the renewed agreement, MTN will be utilizing Ericsson Charging, Ericsson Mediation, and Ericsson Dynamic Activation within its BSS landscape. With support from Ericsson, MTN aims to strengthen its service offerings across Africa, improving billing accuracy, supporting new services, ensuring revenue assurance, and enabling data monetization through advanced analytics and IoT preparations.
Mazen Mroue, MTN Group Chief Technology and Information Officer, emphasized the collaboration with Ericsson has been instrumental in promoting innovation, standardization, and enhancing operational efficiency.
Hossam Kandeel, Vice President and Head of Global Customer Unit MTN and Customer Unit MTN Africa at Ericsson Middle East and Africa, highlighted Ericsson’s BSS portfolio’s flexibility and agility in responding to changing customer demands.
