Telecom Lead Asia: Chinese telecom equipment giant Huawei
has called for global cooperation to improve data protection at the St.
Petersburg International Economic Forum.
While speaking at an economic forum, Huawei Founder and CEO, Ren
Zhengfei warned data would be vulnerable to attack again and again” because
technology will develop faster than security.
Zen said that cyber security is a common issue that the
whole industry has to face and the industry must join hands to proactively
address this issue.
Also, Zen suggested the industry must rapidly
develop reliable cyberspace technology to support development of education and
social skills.
Data floods will never go away. No matter how well
we design and reinforce security assurance systems, they will be vulnerable to
attacks again and again,” Ren added.
Huawei plans to expand in Russia through strategic investment
Huawei also plans to expand its footprints in Russia
through strategic investment. Speaking at the forum, Huawei Founder and
CEO, Ren Zhengfei said that Russia is one of Huawei’s first international
markets, and since entering Russia 15 years ago, the company has
become a local corporate citizen and remains confident in the country’s growth
and development.
The company has faced concerns in the US, Australia,
Middle-East and India, due to its link-ups with China’s ruling Communist Party.
However, the company has denied it is a security threat and says it is owned by
its employees.
Australia bans Huawei from broadband network bid
In March, Huawei was banned by the federal government of
Australia from participating in multibillion- dollar tenders to supply
equipment to broadband network. Concerns over cyber attacks originating in
China are the main reason for banning Huawei.
Additionally, the company had to undo its purchase of
3Leaf Systems, a US computer company after it failed to win approval from a
government security panel.
Recently, a US congressional panel called for an
investigate on Huawei and other Chinese makers.
