Telecom equipment major Ericsson said it has increased Vodafone Idea network share in India through major 4G and 5G deals.
Vodafone Idea recently announced a $3.6 billion network deal with telecom equipment makers including Ericsson, Nokia, and Samsung.
Ericsson said the deployment will cover regions already powered by Ericsson, as well as new areas including Delhi, Kerala, Chhattisgarh, and Rajasthan. This expansion significantly increases Ericsson’s market presence in India and strengthens its collaboration with Vi.
The upgrade will involve the use of energy-efficient, lightweight Ericsson Radio System products, including mid-band Massive MIMO antenna-integrated radios. These technologies are designed to enhance the performance of Vi’s network, providing better coverage, higher data speeds, and a superior customer experience.
“Collaborating with Ericsson will enable Vi to modernize its 4G network and rapidly deploy a world-class 5G network. 5G deployment will allow us to manage growing data traffic, deliver secure and reliable connectivity, and enhance the overall customer experience,” Akshaya Moondra, CEO of Vi, said.
Jagbir Singh, CTO of Vi, highlighted Ericsson’s energy-efficient 5G solutions, stating, “Ericsson’s 5G Radio Access Network (RAN) products will be deployed across our 4G and 5G networks, maximizing network performance for both consumers and enterprises in India.”
Ericsson’s advanced technology is expected to play a key role in supporting India’s digital transformation.
“5G is a critical enabler of digital transformation and economic growth. We aim to empower Vi to deliver fast, reliable, and scalable 5G services,” Andres Vicente, Head of Ericsson’s Market Area Southeast Asia, Oceania, and India, said.
Ericsson, recognized as a global leader in 5G technology by the Frost Radar: Global 5G Network Infrastructure Market report, continues to invest heavily in research and development, helping telecom operators like Vi deliver cutting-edge services to their customers.
