Nokia today said its manufacturing unit in Chennai in South India has started manufacturing 5G New Radio (NR) based on the 3GPP 5G New Radio Release 15 standard.

The Chennai plant recently reached the 4 million unit annual production milestone of 2G, 3G and 4G units. Nokia’s Chennai manufacturing unit serves Indian as well as global customers, shipping to over 100 countries.

Ericsson aims to export Ericsson Radio System to more Southeast Asia markets as part of its Asia business plan, Nunzio Mirtillo, head of Ericsson South East Asia, Oceania and India, said.

Ericsson set up a manufacturing facility in Chakan, Pune in 2016 with an initial investment of $20 million. This facility has been catering to the domestic demand and the company plans to enhance manufacturing capacity once the export volumes pick up.
