Ericsson and Huawei Extend Patent Agreement for Cellular Technologies

Ericsson and Huawei, two significant forces in the technology industry, have announced the extension of their multi-year global patent cross-licensing agreement.
This renewal encompasses patents crucial to standards relevant to the products of both parties, including cellular technologies such as 3G, 4G, and 5G. The agreement’s scope covers network infrastructure and consumer devices sold by both companies, providing them with mutual access to each other’s patented, standardized technologies on a global scale.

Ericsson’s current Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) licensing contracts position the company’s estimated full-year 2023 IPR licensing revenues at approximately SEK 11 billion.

Over several decades, Ericsson has maintained a prominent role in shaping the development of global mobile standards through its contributions to 3GPP. The company’s patent portfolio, comprising more than 60,000 granted patents, gains strength from its leading position as a 5G vendor, supported by annual investments exceeding USD 4 billion in research and development (R&D).
