Broadcom launches latest StrataDNX switch

Broadcom is launching three new additions to its StrataDNX family of switch system on chip (SoC) devices.

Broadcom targets equipment makers with its switch SoC which is suitable for optical transport, carrier Ethernet, edge and core routers, data center and enterprise campus market segments.

The Broadcom StrataDNX products will provide 800Gbps packet processing per device at a high interface bandwidth while integrating a scalable multi terabit switch fabric, hierarchical traffic manager, external packet buffer memory and advanced packet processing.

This new switching StrataDNX is designed to deliver higher port density, lower power consumption and greater subscriber scale in smaller physical system size network equipment.

The StrataDNX family of expandable products also complements Broadcom’s integrated StrataXGS Trident and Tomahawk SoCs. Together they provide comprehensive portfolio of switching solutions across the carrier, data center and enterprise markets.

The 28 nanometer StrataDNX family supports pre standard implementation for 25 and 50 Gigabit Ethernet, enabling direct connectivity to the Broadcom BCM56960 Tomahawk switch SoC. The device also supports port speeds of up to 400 Gbps.

BCM88370 delivers 800 Gbps Ethernet for compact carrier Ethernet and data center top of rack switches. BCM88670 provides 720 Gbps packet processing while BCM88770 provides 3.6Tbps throughput per device. The devices support external DRAM based packed memory offering up to 300 times more traffic buffering compared with on chip memory, enabling zero packet loss in heavily congested networks.

They offer on chip hierarchical traffic management ensures per subscriber bandwidth guarantees, required by the carrier networks to deliver on service level agreements (SLAs).

The architecture enables converged carrier Ethernet and optical transport network (OTN) traffic over a unified fabric and enables significant savings in carrier Capex and Opex for optical transport applications.

Broadcom’s StrataDNX BCM88370, BCM88670 and BCN88770 devices are currently sampling.

Broadcom generated net revenue of $8.43 billion in 2014. The revenue generated for the fourth quarter of 2014 was $2.14 billion which represents an increase of 3.8 percent compared with the $2.06 billion for the fourth quarter of 2013.
