Smartphone shipments in China dip 11% in Q2 to 78.1 mn: IDC

Smartphone shipments in China fell 11 percent in the second quarter to 78.1 million units, according to research report from IDC.

The significant drop in smartphone shipments in China was mainly due to a decline in Huawei’s business in the aftermath of U.S. sanctions on the Chinese company.

Budget phone maker Honor, which was spun off from parent Huawei in the wake of sanctions last year, entered the top 5 in the country for the first time, but its shipments were down about 46 percent for the brand, IDC said.

Vivo was the top smartphone brand in China favoured by Chinese buyers with a 23.8 percent market share, followed by Oppo, Xiaomi, and Apple.

IDC said the top four had significant year-on-year growth, but could not make up for the sharp decline of others including Huawei.
