South Korean smartphone maker Samsung said Galaxy S7 priced at Rs 48,900 and Galaxy S7 Edge for Rs 56,900 will be available for sales in India from 18 March.
Samsung is the largest smartphone brand in India ahead of Micromax, Lenovo, Intex, Microsoft, LG, Sony, Lava, Apple, among others. The timing of the both the smartphones assumes significance because Samsung’s rivals do not have any new phones in this price range.
Samsung launched both Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge at the Mobile World Congress (MWC 2016) last month. Phone analysts are saying India is becoming an important market for Samsung to build its smartphone market share. That’s why Samsung did not take more time to launch two important phones in the Indian telecom market. Apple will launch its latest devices later this year after getting poor response to iPhone 6s last year.
Samsung has built the much awaited 5.1-inch Galaxy S7 and 5.5-inch Galaxy S7 Edge with 3D glass and metal and given ergonomic curves for a comfortable grip for smartphone buyers.
The two latest smartphones from Samsung come with innovations in design, imaging, software functionality and connectivity with a host of other services.
The company is also giving free Gear virtual reality (VR) to its customers who pre-order the devices between March 8-18. This will be a big attraction for Indian smartphone buyers. March-April is not a festival season in India. The company will be looking forward to students and corporates to buy Galaxy S7.
The new Galaxy devices look similar to its predecessors Galaxy S6. Galaxy S7 Edge features curves on both sides and have Always-On Display that gives users a simplified, zero touch experience to check about a missed call or SMS, said IANS in its report. One of the mobile phone bloggers said Galaxy S7 edge is a bulky phone.
Both the devices are IP68 water and dust resistant. The new smartphones have advanced cameras for high-quality images.
The company introduced the first dual pixel camera on Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge smartphones, delivering brighter and sharper images even in low light.
Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge deliver fast wired and wireless charging technology and offers LTE Cat.9 connectivity.
The company brought back its expandable memory feature with the hybrid SIM card that allows users to insert a microSD card for up to 200GB of additional storage.
Samsung also made significant hardware and software updates to optimize gaming performance on Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge.
Both the phones run on an Octa core (2.3GHz Quad + 1.6GHz Quad), 64 bit processor and has a 4GB RAM.
Samsung Galaxy S7 has a 2560 X 1440 (534ppi) 5.1-inch Quad HD Super AMOLED display with Dual Pixel 12-megapixel (F1.7) rear and 5-megapixel (F1.7) cameras.
The Galaxy S7 Edge has a 2560 X 1440 (577ppi) 5.5-inch Quad HD Super AMOLED display with Dual Pixel 12-megapixel (F1.7) rear and 5-megapixel (F1.7) cameras.
Both phones run on Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) operating system.
The processer and battery capacity of 3,000mAh in Galaxy S7 and 3,600mAh in Galaxy S7 Edge ensure longer playing time, and the internal cooling system keeps the device from overheating.
Samsung is currently the undisputed smartphone market leader. Since Micromax is undergoing significant changes to its top management, Samsung is aiming more presence in India.
