Realme aims to sell 15 mn smartphones in India this year

Realme CEO Madhav Sheth on Tuesday said the devices company is aiming to sell 15 million smartphones in India this year.

The company is focussed on “massifying” the best technology at affordable prices, Realme India CEO Madhav Sheth said.

Realme already has 10 million active users in India. “We had set a sales target of 15 million units for 2019 and hopefully we’ll achieve it,” Madhav Sheth said during a press conference in Delhi.

Realme, which started offering its smartphones in the Indian market last year, is among the top five players in the Indian smartphone market. Realme has 7.7 percent share in the Indian smartphone market.

Smartphone shipment in India grew 9.9 percent to 36.9 million in the June 2019 quarter. Xiaomi has 28.3 percent market share as compared with 25.3 percent for Samsung, 15.1 percent for vivo, 9.7 percent for Oppo and 7.7 percent for Realme.

Realme has introduced two new smartphones — Realme 5 Pro priced at Rs 9,999 onwards and Realme 5 priced at Rs 13,999.

Realme 5 features 6.5-inch display, 13 megapixel front camera, quad-camera setup (119-degree 8MP ultra-wide angle lens, 12MP main camera lens, 2MP ultra-macro lens and 2MP portrait lens), and 5,000 mAh battery. It will be available in three RAM and internal memory variants from August 27.

The Realme 5 Pro has a 6.3-inch display, 16MP front camera, and quad-camera setup (119-degree 8MP ultra-wide angle lens, 48MP main camera lens, 2MP ultra-macro lens and 2MP portrait lens). It will have three different combinations of RAM and internal memory, and go on sale from September 4.

Realme 5 is India’s first Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 processor-based mobile device, while the 5 Pro is powered by the Snapdragon 712. Both smartphones are equipped with fireproof protective separation and triple precautions to guarantee battery safety.
