Smartphone maker OPPO is set to launch the Reno16 Series in India on July 2, targeting content creators and Gen Z consumers with a strong focus on AI-powered photography, professional-grade video recording, and smart accessories.
Positioned in the premium mid-range smartphone segment, the Reno16 Series 5G smartphone aims to differentiate itself through advanced imaging features, AI editing tools, and the debut of the new OPPO Bubble smart camera companion.
OPPO Reno16 Series Features Focus on AI Photography
The biggest highlight of the OPPO Reno16 Series is its AI-first camera system. The smartphone features a 50MP 3.5x Telephoto Portrait Camera that delivers 85mm-equivalent portraits with improved background compression and DSLR-style depth effects. It is complemented by a 50MP Ultra-Clear Main Camera, 50MP Ultra-Wide Selfie Camera with a 100-degree field of view, and a 50MP Ultra-Wide Camera, supported by a Dual Flash system for better low-light photography.
The Reno16 variant also introduces Natural Tone Imaging, an AI-powered imaging engine built around Crystal Clear Image, True Colour, and Vivid Light technologies. An upgraded multi-skin-tone algorithm preserves natural skin tones instead of applying uniform colour correction, delivering more realistic portraits across different lighting conditions.
AI Video and Content Creation Tools
OPPO has expanded its AI content creation capabilities with the Reno16 Series. The 5G smartphone supports 4K 60fps HDR video recording across ultra-wide, main, and telephoto cameras, ensuring consistent colour accuracy and dynamic range.
Additional creator-focused features include:
4K Auto Straighten for real-time video stabilization.
Zoom Free Video for seamless zoom transitions.
AI Remix Collage, which automatically combines photos, Live Photos, and video clips into ready-to-share social media content with customizable text, stickers, and layouts.
Pop Cam with nine creative presets such as Digicam, Instant Film, Retro, Light Leak, and Airy.
Popout 2.0, allowing subjects, pets, landmarks, and objects to extend beyond image frames.
Dual-View Video 2.0, enabling simultaneous recording from front and rear cameras with flexible layouts and focal length switching.
These AI-powered tools reduce dependence on third-party editing apps, making mobile content creation faster and more intuitive.
OPPO Bubble Brings a New Camera Accessory Ecosystem
Alongside the smartphone, OPPO will introduce OPPO Bubble, a 27.5-gram magnetic smart camera companion.
The accessory features a 1.73-inch AMOLED display that mirrors the rear camera preview, enabling easier selfies and group photography. It also functions as a Bluetooth remote with a 10-metre wireless range, allowing hands-free shooting.
Powered by a 550mAh battery, OPPO Bubble comes with IP54-rated dust and water resistance and can display interactive pets, photos, Live Images, and short videos, expanding OPPO’s connected ecosystem beyond smartphones.
Competition: OnePlus, Samsung, Pixel and iQOO
The OPPO Reno16 Series enters one of India’s most competitive premium smartphone segments.
The OnePlus 15R competes with flagship-level performance, fast charging, and a clean software experience, making it attractive for gamers and power users.
The iQOO 15R emphasizes gaming performance, powerful processors, and high-refresh-rate displays, challenging OPPO primarily on speed and multitasking.
The Samsung Galaxy S25 FE offers premium cameras, long software support, and seamless ecosystem integration, making it a strong rival for users seeking a balanced flagship experience.
The Google Pixel 9a remains a leader in computational photography and AI image processing, competing directly with OPPO’s Natural Tone Imaging and AI editing capabilities.
Meanwhile, the Nothing Phone (4a) Pro appeals to buyers looking for distinctive design, clean software, and a unique user experience.
OPPO Bets on AI Creativity to Stand Out
Rather than competing solely on processing power, OPPO is positioning the Reno16 Series around AI-powered creativity. Its combination of 50MP multi-camera hardware, 4K HDR recording, AI Remix Collage, Natural Tone Imaging, Dual-View Video 2.0, and the innovative OPPO Bubble accessory creates a differentiated offering for users focused on photography, vlogging, and social media content.
As competition intensifies in India’s premium mid-range smartphone market, OPPO’s strategy of combining advanced AI imaging with connected accessories could help the Reno16 Series stand out against rivals from OnePlus, Samsung, Google, iQOO, and Nothing.
