Motorola has strengthened its position in India’s highly competitive smartphone market by entering the Top 5 smartphone brands in Q1 2026, according to IDC’s Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker.
The company achieved a significant leap from the 9th position in Q1 2024 to the 5th position in Q1 2026, reflecting one of the fastest growth trajectories in the Indian smartphone industry over the last two years.
Motorola’s market share in India nearly doubled during the period, rising from 4.6 percent in Q1 2024 to 8.9 percent in Q1 2026. The company attributed this growth to its focus on meaningful innovation, premium design, AI-driven experiences, and a consumer-first strategy across different price segments.
The growth momentum has been driven by Motorola’s expanding smartphone portfolio, including the moto g series, motorola edge lineup, razr foldables, and the newly introduced motorola signature series. The brand has increasingly positioned itself in the premium smartphone segment through differentiated designs, advanced camera systems, AI-powered imaging capabilities, immersive display technologies, and innovative materials and finishes.
Motorola’s premium strategy received another boost with the launch of the latest Motorola Razr Fold, which combines foldable smartphone technology with AI features and a DXOMARK Gold Label-awarded camera system. The device further strengthens Motorola’s presence in India’s premium and foldable smartphone categories.
The company has also expanded its brand positioning beyond hardware through collaborations with global lifestyle and technology brands including Pantone, Swarovski, Bose, and Corning. Motorola is also serving as the Official Smartphone Partner for the FIFA World Cup 2026, supporting its efforts to build stronger premium brand visibility globally and in India.
Motorola said its expansion in India has also been supported by stronger retail, e-commerce, and after-sales service partnerships, helping improve accessibility and long-term customer experience across the country.
TM Narasimhan, Managing Director at Motorola India, said consumer trust in Motorola’s innovation, premium experiences, and iconic design continues to drive the company’s growth momentum in India. He added that partnerships with leading brands such as Pantone, Bose, and Sony are helping Motorola deliver AI-led experiences while strengthening brand aspiration among Indian consumers.
The company is also accelerating its connected ecosystem strategy through the introduction of Motorola Qira, designed to enable interoperability across smartphones, PCs, tablets, wearables, and personal audio devices. Motorola’s ecosystem strategy is further supported through collaborations with Google Gemini, Microsoft Copilot, and Perplexity, enabling AI-powered experiences across devices and applications.
Motorola’s rapid rise in India highlights the growing demand for premium smartphones featuring AI capabilities, foldable form factors, advanced imaging, and connected ecosystem experiences as competition intensifies across the Indian smartphone market in 2026.
