Huawei phone campaign in ChinaHuawei consumer business group’s smartphone product line president He Gang revealed the numbers at a launch event in Wuhan, China for its new Nova 5 phone. The phone is powered by Huawei’s new 7-nanometer chipset Kirin 810.

Research firm Strategy Analytics said Huawei shipped 59.1 million smartphones during the first three months of 2019 as compared with 39.3 million in Q1 2018. Huawei had captured a record 18 percent global smartphone market share in Q1 2019.

Huawei has been hit by devastating curbs ordered by Washington, which threatens to cripple its supply chain.

Huawei Technologies is preparing for a 40 percent to 60 percent decline in international smartphone shipments, Bloomberg reported on Sunday.

Marketing and sales managers at the technology giant are internally expecting a drop in volumes of anywhere between 40 million to 60 million smartphones this year, the report said.

Huawei founder and chief executive Ren Zhengfei said on Monday the ban on sourcing tech from American companies could cost the company $30 billion in revenue this year, and that smartphone sales outside China already dropped 40 percent in the past month.
