Apple leads tablet applications processor market ahead of Intel

The global tablet Applications Processor (AP) market grew 14 percent to $472 million in Q2 2019, according to Strategy Analytics.

Apple extended its tablet AP market share leadership with 42 percent revenue share in Q2 2019 followed by Intel with 19 percent and Qualcomm with 17 percent.

“Despite shipment decline, the tablet AP market showed signs of stability in terms of average selling prices (ASPs), thanks to a shift in mix towards higher performance Aps,” said Sravan Kundojjala, associate director of Strategy Analytics.

x86-based tablet APs accounted for 13 percent of total tablet APs shipped in Q2 2019. Intel’s strength in the Windows ecosystem helped but Qualcomm’s persistent efforts in Windows PCs could see more competition in this segment.”

Apple, HiSilicon, Qualcomm and Samsung LSI all registered a shipment growth in the tablet AP market in Q2 2019. Both HiSilicon and Samsung LSI improved their share at Huawei and Samsung Mobile, respectively and gained market share in Q2 2019.

“Qualcomm, on the other hand, scored multiple tablet design-wins with its modem-integrated Snapdragon 600 and 400-series of APs and gained share,” said Stuart Robinson, executive director of Strategy Analytics.
