Semiconductor sales surge 15.1% to $137.7 bn in first-quarter: SIA

Worldwide sales of semiconductors totaled $137.7 billion during the first quarter of 2024, an increase of 15.2 percent compared to the first quarter of 2023 but 5.7 percent less than the fourth quarter of 2023, The Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) said in its report.
Sales for the month of March 2024 decreased 0.6 percent compared to February 2024. Monthly sales are compiled by the World Semiconductor Trade Statistics (WSTS) organization and represent a three-month moving average. SIA represents 99 percent of the U.S. semiconductor industry by revenue and nearly two-thirds of non-U.S. chip firms.

John Neuffer, SIA president and CEO, said in a news statement: “The market is expected to continue to grow during the remainder of the year, with double-digit annual growth projected for 2024.”

Regionally, year-to-year sales in March increased in China (27.4 percent), the Americas (26.3 percent), and Asia Pacific/All Other (11.1 percent), but decreased in Europe (-6.8 percent) and Japan (-9.3 percent).  Month-to-month sales held even in China, but ticked down in the America (-0.1 percent), Europe (-0.9 percent), Asia Pacific/All Other (-1.2 percent), and Japan (-2.0 percent).
