Nvidia is investing $3.5 billion in MediaTek, strengthening its relationship with Taiwan’s largest chip designer as the companies expand into custom AI chips, data centers, AI PCs and intelligent vehicles.
The investment represents another major financial commitment by Nvidia to companies supporting the rapidly expanding artificial intelligence ecosystem.
The partnership could be particularly important for MediaTek’s push beyond smartphones into higher-value AI data center processors. Nvidia, meanwhile, gains another major semiconductor partner for its NVLink technology as cloud providers increasingly develop custom AI accelerators.
Rick Tsai, vice chairman and CEO of MediaTek, said: “NVIDIA’s investment strengthens a collaboration that spans cloud AI infrastructure, local AI computing and automotive in the era of physical AI.”
MediaTek Joins Nvidia NVLink Fusion Ecosystem
A central element of Nvidia’s investment of $3.5 Billion in MediaTek is Nvidia NVLink Fusion, which will allow MediaTek customers to design their own AI processors that connect directly with Nvidia’s larger computing systems.
NVLink Fusion provides connectivity technology and specialized memory capabilities that enable custom AI processors to integrate with Nvidia data center infrastructure.
This can reduce development time and engineering costs for companies building custom AI chips because they do not need to develop the entire connectivity architecture independently. Instead, customers can concentrate resources on designing processors optimized for their specific AI workloads.
The development is significant as hyperscalers and major technology companies increasingly design custom silicon to complement GPUs and improve the economics of large-scale AI computing.
Nvidia and MediaTek Target AI PCs and Vehicles
The partnership extends beyond data centers. Nvidia and MediaTek will continue collaborating on personal computer processors and technology for AI-powered vehicles.
The two companies had already expanded their PC partnership in June 2026, when they launched the RTX Spark PC chip, designed to bring artificial intelligence capabilities directly to laptops and desktop computers.
MediaTek’s strengths in system-on-chip design and power-efficient computing complement Nvidia’s GPU and AI expertise, potentially giving the companies a larger opportunity as AI processing increasingly moves from cloud data centers to PCs and other edge devices.
Automotive represents another growth opportunity as car manufacturers increase their use of AI for driver-assistance systems, infotainment, autonomous-driving technologies and software-defined vehicles.
Alphabet Also Participates in MediaTek Bond Offering
Nvidia is not the only technology company participating in the MediaTek financing.
MediaTek said Alphabet, which is also an important participant in AI infrastructure, took part in the convertible bond offering. However, MediaTek did not disclose the value of Alphabet’s investment.
Alphabet’s participation adds another strategic dimension to the financing because major cloud companies are investing heavily in proprietary AI processors and supporting infrastructure.
For MediaTek, relationships with Nvidia and Alphabet could support its strategy of becoming a larger supplier of custom silicon for AI infrastructure.
MediaTek Backs AI Expansion With $5 Billion Financing Plan
MediaTek has been attempting to reduce its dependence on smartphones by expanding into AI processors for data centers.
The company received approval in July 2026 for a $5 billion financing plan supporting its expansion strategy.
Nvidia’s $3.5 billion investment therefore arrives as MediaTek increases its financial and technological commitment to AI infrastructure.
The combination of custom AI chips, NVLink connectivity and MediaTek’s semiconductor design capabilities could create new opportunities as cloud operators seek alternatives to standardized processors for increasingly specialized AI workloads.
Nvidia’s AI Financing Commitments Keep Growing
The MediaTek deal also highlights Nvidia’s expanding financial role across the AI ecosystem.
Earlier in August, Nvidia provided an up to $105 billion guarantee connected with OpenAI’s Ohio data center lease. Reuters said the MediaTek investment could add to investor scrutiny of arrangements in which Nvidia financially supports companies that may ultimately increase demand for its AI products.
Nvidia has also invested $1.5 billion in SB Energy, the infrastructure company involved in developing the Ohio data center. SB Energy could seek a valuation of more than $50 billion in a potential market debut, according to Reuters.
Nvidia Forecasts 70 Percent Revenue Growth
The MediaTek announcement comes only days after Nvidia provided a long-term outlook indicating approximately 70 percent revenue growth for next year.
CEO Jensen Huang said AI has reached an inflection point as adoption moves from experimentation toward real-world deployment.
That outlook provides important context for the MediaTek investment. Nvidia is attempting to expand its opportunity beyond sales of its own GPUs by making technologies such as NVLink part of the infrastructure surrounding custom AI processors.
