Analog Devices (ADI), a global leader in the semiconductor industry, commemorated a momentous milestone as it marked its investment of more than $1 billion to expand its semiconductor wafer fab in Beaverton, Oregon. The celebration signifies ADI’s commitment to technological advancement, domestic manufacturing, and environmental sustainability.
The recent investment has allowed ADI to significantly enhance its operations. The cleanroom space has been expanded to approximately 118,000 square feet, providing ample room for semiconductor wafer fabrication. Moreover, the internal manufacturing of products running on the advanced 180-nanometer technology node and above has nearly doubled, contributing to improved efficiency and output.
One of the most remarkable aspects of this expansion is the positive impact it will have on the local economy. The addition of new facilities and equipment is projected to create hundreds of new, long-term employment opportunities, thereby substantially increasing ADI’s workforce in Oregon. Currently employing around 950 individuals in the region, ADI’s growth will boost the economic landscape of Beaverton and the surrounding communities.
In line with its commitment to environmental responsibility, ADI has allocated more than 10 percent of the total investment to acquire fab tools. These advanced tools are designed to increase operational efficiency while incorporating environmentally friendly chemistries. The company’s decision to adopt sustainable practices demonstrates its dedication to reducing its ecological footprint.
Remarkably, despite the substantial expansion of production output, ADI’s Beaverton facility has set ambitious environmental targets. The facility aims to achieve an approximate 75 percent reduction in absolute greenhouse gas emissions and intends to curtail water usage per production unit by approximately 50 percent. These sustainability efforts reflect ADI’s dedication to environmental stewardship and its contribution to global environmental goals.
Vincent Roche, CEO and Chair of Analog Devices, expressed the significance of the Beaverton facility’s expansion. He emphasized that this undertaking not only strengthens ADI’s production capacity in critical industries but also aligns with the vision of the CHIPS Act, supporting domestic manufacturing and bolstering the resilience of ADI’s hybrid manufacturing model.
