Vodafone and Nokia Validate 50G PON Upgrade Path for Existing Fibre Networks

Vodafone and Nokia have successfully tested technology designed to extend the useful life and capacity of existing fibre broadband networks beyond 2030 without replacing customer fibre lines. The UK laboratory trial demonstrated that 50G Passive Optical Network technology can operate alongside existing GPON and XGS-PON infrastructure. With speeds of up to 50 Gbps, 50G PON can provide around five times the capacity of 10 Gbps-class XGS-PON, supporting multi-gigabit broadband, enterprise services and mobile backhaul. The approach allows operators to upgrade interface cards and ports at fibre access nodes rather than replacing major network hardware. The trial also validated synchronization technologies for high-capacity mobile backhaul, strengthening the case for phased fibre-network upgrades.

MTN Uganda and Huawei Integrate LinkHome Into MyMTN for Smarter FTTH

MTN Uganda has partnered with Huawei to enhance its fiber-to-the-home broadband experience through LinkHome, a smart home management application integrated into the MyMTN app. The integration is designed to give customers a more centralized way to manage their connected-home environment alongside their existing MTN services. The initiative reflects the growing shift among telecom operators from basic connectivity toward digital home-management platforms and value-added broadband services. For MTN Uganda, the LinkHome integration adds a smart-home layer to its FTTH offering while Huawei provides the underlying technology. The collaboration comes as African operators increasingly seek to improve the customer experience around fixed broadband and expand digital services beyond traditional internet connectivity.

Intracom Telecom Launches 15 Gbps E-Band Radios for High-Capacity Networks

Intracom Telecom has introduced two new UltraLink E-Band radio products capable of delivering up to 15 Gbps of full-duplex capacity, targeting high-capacity wireless transport requirements worldwide. The UltraLink-GX80 Advanced provides up to 15 Gbps in a 1+0 configuration, while the UltraLink-GX80 Dual delivers the same capacity through a single 1000 MHz channel. The company says the products provide up to 50 percent more capacity than conventional competing solutions while combining extended link range, spectral efficiency and integrated networking capabilities. The radios are designed for applications including mobile transport, 5G and fixed wireless access. Intracom Telecom said nearly 50,000 of its millimeter-wave radios have been deployed globally, supporting its expansion of high-capacity wireless infrastructure.
