Verizon’s $1 bn Spectrum Power Move Set to Boost Coverage and Capacity

Verizon has completed its $1 billion acquisition of spectrum assets from Array Digital Infrastructure, finalizing a deal first announced in October 2024. The transaction received approval from the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in May 2026 and is expected to strengthen Verizon’s network performance by increasing capacity, enhancing coverage, and improving service reliability. Regulators noted that the additional spectrum will help deliver better indoor connectivity and expand wireless services in rural communities. The acquisition comes as demand for mobile data continues to rise, highlighting Verizon’s commitment to investing in network infrastructure and maintaining competitive service quality. The deal also represents another significant shift in the allocation of former U.S. Cellular spectrum assets across the U.S. telecommunications market.

Digital Leap Forward: Equatorial Guinea’s GETESA Unveils 5G, Fiber and Mobile Money Expansion

Equatorial Guinea’s state-owned telecom operator GETESA has unveiled an ambitious 12-month modernization plan aimed at transforming the country’s digital landscape. The initiative includes the rollout of 5G services, expansion of fiber-optic infrastructure, deployment of public Wi-Fi networks, introduction of eSIM technology, and the launch of a new mobile money platform called Getesa Money. The strategy follows an audit that identified aging equipment, slow internet speeds, network congestion, and service quality issues affecting customers. Authorities also plan to revive the national fiber network to improve connectivity and support digital transformation goals. By combining advanced telecommunications services with financial technology offerings, GETESA aims to enhance digital access, improve customer experience, and drive broader economic and technological development across Equatorial Guinea.

ETSI Unveils AI Computing Platform Security Standard to Strengthen AI Supply Chain Protection

The European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) has released ETSI TS 104 033, a new technical specification establishing security requirements for Artificial Intelligence (AI) computing platforms. The standard provides a security baseline for platforms that support AI model training and inference, helping organizations build secure-by-default AI environments.

The specification defines mandatory security requirements, functions, security components, and service interfaces designed to protect AI platforms from cyber threats. It focuses on safeguarding critical assets such as AI models and data during use, transit, and storage, reducing risks including model extraction and data leakage.

ETSI TS 104 033 also aligns with ETSI EN 304 223, covering secure design, development, deployment, maintenance, and decommissioning throughout the AI lifecycle. By creating a consistent security framework, the specification supports platform designers, operators, and stakeholders in strengthening AI supply chain security while helping meet regulatory requirements, including compliance with the EU AI Act.
