Today’s telecom news includes announcements from Tidal Wave Telecom, MWC 2026, Bharti Airtel, and others.
Tidal Wave Telecom Makes History with First-Ever Nationwide Captioned VRS Calls
Tidal Wave Telecom has introduced real-time captioned Video Relay Service (VRS) calls nationwide through its OneTRS software platform. The new feature integrates live text captions directly into video relay calls, enhancing communication accessibility for deaf and hard-of-hearing users. The service is particularly significant for individuals in correctional facilities who rely on secure video communication systems. By combining video relay and captioning within a single platform, the company aims to improve clarity, user experience, and accessibility compliance. The launch positions Tidal Wave Telecom ahead of anticipated regulatory requirements from the Federal Communications Commission regarding captioned VRS services.
Airtel Bets Big on Digital Lending with $2.2bn Investment
Indian telecom major Bharti Airtel announced it will invest ₹200 billion (about $2.2 billion) over the next few years to expand its digital lending business through its financial arm, Airtel Money. The move comes after Airtel Money secured a non‑banking financial company (NBFC) licence from the Reserve Bank of India on February 13, enabling the company to scale its lending operations directly. Airtel will fund 70 percent of the investment, with the remainder coming from its shareholder Bharti Enterprises, aiming to leverage its large customer base and diversify beyond traditional telecom services into financial technology.
