Tarana and Itellum Demonstrate 1 Gbps Fixed Wireless Broadband in Costa Rica
Tarana Wireless and Costa Rican internet service provider Itellum have demonstrated a live 1 Gbps fixed wireless access connection at the Latin America Spectrum Management Conference in San Jose. The demonstration followed Costa Rica’s new 6 GHz standard-power framework established by telecommunications regulator SUTEL, creating conditions for gigabit-class fixed wireless broadband. The companies said the technology could help expand high-speed connectivity beyond areas where fibre deployment is difficult or costly. The demonstration also highlights the growing role of 6 GHz spectrum in supporting higher-capacity wireless broadband services. With regulators across Latin America examining spectrum strategies for closing connectivity gaps, the successful test could support wider deployment of next-generation fixed wireless access in Costa Rica.
Ericsson Recycles Nearly 5,000 Tonnes of Telecom E-Waste in Saudi Arabia
Ericsson has enabled the collection and recycling of nearly 5,000 metric tonnes of end-of-life telecommunications equipment in Saudi Arabia through its E-Waste Management Program since the initiative began in the Kingdom in 2008. More than 1,160 metric tonnes were recycled during the past two years alone. The programme covers equipment collection, decommissioning, transportation and recycling, with materials processed by Ericsson-approved recyclers that meet required licensing and environmental, health and safety standards. The initiative aims to recover valuable materials and reduce telecom equipment sent to landfill, supporting a more circular approach to network infrastructure. Ericsson’s Kirsty Fitzgibbon said recovered materials are returned to manufacturing industries as secondary raw materials, reducing reliance on virgin resources.
Gemtek and Dixon Expand India Partnership for High-Speed Optical Connectivity Gemtek Technology and Dixon Technologies are expanding their strategic collaboration through their Indian joint venture to manufacture and market high-speed optical connectivity products. The partnership will cover optical transceivers, BOSA and related solutions serving broadband, telecom, cloud, data centre and AI infrastructure markets. The collaboration supports India’s push for local electronics manufacturing while strengthening supply-chain resilience and creating a scalable platform for meeting rising demand for high-bandwidth connectivity.
