Vodafone Idea Slashes Bond Sale, Targets Faster Network Expansion
Vodafone Idea’s infrastructure arm has reduced its planned bond issue from ₹50,000 crore to about ₹3,200 crore, aiming for completion by December. The company plans to use the raised funds to support network expansion while keeping borrowing costs controlled.
MWC25 Doha
MWC25 Doha closed its inaugural edition with a strong industry response, signaling the rise of the Middle East and North Africa region as a strategic force in the global connectivity and digital innovation landscape. The event, hosted in partnership with Qatar’s Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, drew almost 9,500 unique attendees from 110 countries and territories, defining Doha’s arrival as a new global hub for advanced connectivity. The debut reflected growing confidence from global operators, technology players, cloud providers, policymakers and enterprise customers who increasingly view the region as a launchpad for innovation, investment and cross-industry collaboration in telecoms. MWC25 Doha demonstrated how rapidly the MENA region is transforming into an anchor market for next-generation digital infrastructure. The leadership presence underscored this momentum, with 20 percent of attendees at the C-suite level and 41 percent at director level and above. More than half of total participants represented industries adjacent to the core mobile ecosystem, reflecting how telecom networks are now powering broader digital-economy growth.
India Tightens Telecom Security: New Rules to Stop Frauds and Track Devices
The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) in India has amended the Telecommunication Cyber Security Rules 2024 to strengthen device traceability and curb telecom‑enabled frauds. A key innovation is the introduction of a centralised Mobile Number Validation (MNV) platform, allowing service providers to verify mobile ownership before linking numbers with financial, e‑commerce, or government services, preventing identity theft and fake accounts. Additionally, refurbished or resale devices must undergo “IMEI scrubbing,” checking each device against a central blacklist before sale, reducing the circulation of stolen or cloned phones.
