Semtech Advances 50G Optical Fronthaul for AI-Driven 5G-Advanced

Semtech has announced production availability of its mobile transport portfolio supporting 50G optical fronthaul for next-generation 5G-Advanced radio deployments. The technology addresses rising uplink capacity requirements driven by generative AI, multimodal AI and augmented-reality applications, with uplink demand expected to increase significantly. The portfolio supports 10-kilometer duplex links, 15-kilometer bidirectional links and wavelength-division multiplexing architectures. Semtech said its ClearEdge, Tri-Edge and FiberEdge product families are designed for current 5G-Advanced deployments while providing a pathway toward 6G. The company is working with module partners and system vendors to accelerate adoption.

du and Nokia Deploy Six-Carrier Aggregation on 5G-Advanced

UAE telecom operator du and Nokia have deployed six-carrier aggregation on a commercial standalone 5G-Advanced network, combining 420MHz of bandwidth across FDD and TDD spectrum. The deployment uses spectrum in the 3.6GHz, 2.6GHz, 2.1GHz, 1.8GHz and 600MHz bands and Nokia’s Habrok massive MIMO radios. The technology is designed to increase network capacity, throughput and performance for compatible devices while supporting AI-powered features and next-generation applications. du said the deployment strengthens the network foundation for the UAE’s transition toward 6G.

Vodafone Egypt Upgrades RAN with AI Processing

Vodafone Egypt has commercially deployed Ericsson’s RAN Processor 6672 across parts of Greater Cairo and the Delta, bringing AI processing capabilities closer to radio sites. Ericsson said the processor delivers up to four times higher processing capacity while reducing energy consumption by more than 50 percent. The technology is designed to dynamically respond to changing traffic and radio conditions and can replace three basebands with a single processor. Vodafone Egypt said the deployment improves processing efficiency and energy performance while supporting AI capabilities and continued network capacity growth.
