Robocall Defenses at Risk as Smaller Carriers Lag in Call Authentication

Transaction Network Services’ 2026 Robocall Investigation Report highlights how uneven adoption of call authentication is slowing progress in the fight against illegal robocalls. Tier-1 U.S. telecom operators have achieved strong results with STIR/SHAKEN, signing about 85 percent of call traffic in 2025, with 93 percent receiving the highest level of attestation. In contrast, smaller carriers trail far behind, signing only 17.5 percent of their traffic. This gap allows scammers to exploit less secure networks to mask fraudulent calls and bypass existing protections. The report underscores how inconsistent implementation across the telecom ecosystem continues to weaken industry-wide efforts to restore consumer trust and reduce robocall volumes.

AT&T Taps AWS and Amazon LEO in Major Push to Transform U.S. Connectivity

AT&T has partnered with Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Amazon LEO to accelerate the modernization of the United States’ connectivity infrastructure through cloud, fiber and satellite integration. The collaboration will see AT&T migrate a significant portion of its network and IT workloads to AWS, leveraging cloud, AI and edge computing capabilities to improve scalability, reliability and operational efficiency. AT&T will also connect AWS data centers using its high-capacity fiber network, enabling faster deployment of advanced digital services. In parallel, the companies plan to explore the use of Amazon LEO’s low-Earth-orbit satellite network to expand fixed broadband access for enterprise customers, particularly in hard-to-reach and underserved areas.
