AT&T and T-Mobile Resolve Patent Disputes Over Wireless Network Innovations

AT&T and T-Mobile have reached settlements with Headwater Research in separate U.S. patent lawsuits involving wireless technology. The cases were filed in federal courts in Texas and Delaware, with trials scheduled to begin in August 2025. Headwater claimed the companies infringed patents related to methods for reducing data usage and managing network congestion. These technologies aim to improve network efficiency by optimizing data transmission and balancing traffic loads. Court filings show the parties requested to pause the proceedings following the settlements. The financial terms and other details of the agreements were not disclosed.

Telecom Boosts 5G Core Testing with Expanded SBI Emulation

GL Communications announced a 5G Service-Based Interface (SBI) test suite aligned with 3GPP Release 17. It supports interfaces N8, N10, N12, N13, N17, N20, N21, N22, N29, and N51. The MAPS 5G SBI system uses HTTP with JSON to emulate and test core network functions such as AMF, SMF, UDM, AUSF, SMSF, NEF, EIR, NSSF, and UPF. It enables functional and load testing, high-volume control-plane traffic generation, wrap-around testing, and large-scale emulations involving multiple base stations and user equipment. A YAML editor is included to create JSON messages for REST-based HTTP APIs. Automation is supported through Python APIs with scheduling, call statistics, and event monitoring for continuous testing.
