Europe’s Fibre Rollout Faces Cash Flow Crunch Despite Rapid Expansion

Europe’s fibre broadband rollout is progressing, but operators face financial and adoption hurdles before strong cash flows materialize. By 2026, fibre networks will reach more than 80 percent of European homes and likely surpass 90 percent by 2028, yet expanding into less profitable areas is becoming costly. Take‑up rates remain modest about 58 percent in 2026 and 63 percent in 2028 partly due to competition from established cable networks that still draw customers. Smaller alternative fibre networks (Altnets) struggle to grow revenue while funding ongoing rollouts, leading many to delay build plans and focus on customer growth.

HFCL Powers Rural India with Homegrown Routers in BharatNet Expansion

HFCL has begun the large-scale deployment of indigenously designed and manufactured IP/MPLS network routers for India’s rural broadband program, BharatNet, in collaboration with ITI Limited. The company will deploy over 80,000 routers, replacing foreign equipment and advancing India’s push for technological self-reliance. The rollout started in Rouri Gram Panchayat, Himachal Pradesh, and is expanding to regions including Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, West Bengal, and the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, aiming to enhance high-speed connectivity in rural areas.
