DoT Strengthens Subscriber Complaint Redressal for Indian Telecom Users
India’s Department of Telecommunications (DoT) is expanding its role in telecom complaint handling, especially in areas with limited network coverage. Users of major operators — BSNL, Airtel, Jio, and Vi — can escalate unresolved service complaints directly to DoT. In one case, BSNL resolved a 4G tower outage caused by a UBR cable fault after DoT action. Another case involved an Airtel Air Fiber customer who saw internet service restored after DoT intervention. These actions demonstrate how the DoT is enforcing accountability in the telecom sector. The department was ranked high in grievance redressal for March and April. With over 115 crore telecom subscribers in India, service issues can disrupt communication, especially in locations where only one provider operates. The process allows users to bypass service providers and submit complaints directly. This model improves telecom service response and supports innovation in government oversight. The DoT continues to strengthen network support in underserved areas, India TV News reports.
Starlink Set to Launch Satellite Internet Services in India by 2026
Starlink plans to begin telecom operations in India within 12 months, offering satellite internet service. The company aims to deliver bandwidth of 700 gigabytes per second during its first phase, with a goal of reaching 3 terabytes per second by 2027. Service rollout depends on regulatory approvals. Three earth station sites have been identified, each supporting nine internet gateways. These gateways will link users to satellite internet. Starlink has formed agreements with Indian telecom companies — Reliance Jio, Vodafone Idea, and Bharti Airtel — to deliver services. It will offer both ISP-distributed models and a direct-to-consumer (DTC) model. The DTC model includes a personal ground station priced at approximately Rs 50,000, NDTV Profit reports.
ZTE and Ethio Telecom Launch Africa’s First All-Optical Government Office with FTTR-B Network Innovation
ZTE Corporation and Ethio Telecom deployed the FTTR-B all-optical network at the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) office building, creating Africa’s first all-optical government office. Ethio Telecom led the project while ZTE provided solution design, equipment, and support. GERD is a major hydropower project supplying power and supporting development in Ethiopia. Traditional Ethernet networks face bandwidth limits and require separate systems for internet, voice, and security, increasing costs and complexity. The FTTR-B solution integrates these services into a single network, reducing deployment costs by 25 percent. The system uses the ZXEN G100S gateway and 34 optical access points to deliver fiber coverage throughout the office. ZTE’s ZENIC ONE platform supports fault detection, remote troubleshooting, and report creation, improving maintenance efficiency by 30 percent. Built-in portal authentication separates employee and visitor access to enhance security.
