India’s Smartphone Export Boom: Shipments Jump 127-Fold in a Decade
India’s mobile phone exports have surged about 127 times over the past decade, according to Union Electronics and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. He noted that smartphone exports reached around $30 billion in 2025, highlighting India’s rapid rise as a global manufacturing hub. Mobile phone production and exports have expanded significantly, growing from minimal levels in 2014 to nearly ₹2 lakh crore in recent years. The growth has been driven by government initiatives such as the Make in India programme and the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme, which have encouraged global and domestic companies to expand manufacturing in the country. The surge reflects India’s increasing role in global electronics supply chains and its push to strengthen domestic manufacturing capacity.
