FirstLight Builds 240-Mile High-Capacity Fiber Route for Major Hyperscaler
FirstLight Fiber has signed an agreement to provide a major hyperscaler with a 240-route-mile high-fiber-count network connecting Albany, New York, with Boston, Massachusetts. The infrastructure is designed for mission-critical, latency-sensitive data transport between two important Northeast US metro markets. Albany will serve as a key regeneration and colocation point, providing additional interconnection flexibility as the customer expands its infrastructure requirements. The hyperscaler was not identified. The deal highlights increasing demand for long-haul and metro fiber capacity as cloud providers and AI infrastructure operators connect distributed computing facilities. High-fiber-count routes also provide scalability for additional wavelengths and capacity upgrades, making fiber infrastructure increasingly important as AI clusters, cloud platforms and data centers generate substantially greater east-west network traffic.
WOW! Boosts Broadband Upload Speed 10-Fold and Prepares Newnan for DOCSIS 4.0
WideOpenWest has completed the first phase of a major broadband-network upgrade in Newnan, Georgia, delivering its largest capacity increase in the market in more than a decade. WOW! increased maximum downstream speeds from 1.2 Gbps to 2 Gbps, while upstream speeds jumped 10-fold from 50 Mbps to 500 Mbps. The operator plans additional upgrades over the next year that will further expand network capacity and prepare the infrastructure for DOCSIS 4.0. Higher upstream bandwidth is increasingly important for video conferencing, cloud backup, content creation and other applications generating substantial outbound traffic. The project demonstrates how US cable operators are upgrading existing infrastructure to deliver multi-gigabit services while preparing for symmetrical broadband competition from fiber networks.
Boldyn Networks Deploys Wi-Fi 7 and Neutral-Host DAS Across Belmont Park
Boldyn Networks has completed a next-generation connectivity deployment for the redevelopment of Belmont Park in New York. The project combines a fully converged network system, Wi-Fi 7 and a neutral-host distributed antenna system, providing wireless infrastructure across the grandstand, infield and wider campus. The five-story grandstand is scheduled to reopen on September 18, 2026, with the network designed to support spectators, venue operations and connected services during high-density events. Neutral-host DAS infrastructure allows multiple mobile operators to use common indoor cellular equipment, reducing duplicated deployments while improving coverage and capacity. The project demonstrates growing investment in converged private, Wi-Fi and public cellular infrastructure at stadiums and other venues where thousands of users require simultaneous high-bandwidth connectivity.
