US Clears Deutsche Telekom Spectrum Swap, but T-Mobile Deal Uncertainty Persists

The U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has approved a spectrum swap involving Deutsche Telekom, removing a key regulatory hurdle for the transaction. The approval enables more efficient spectrum utilization and strengthens network capacity, supporting future wireless expansion. However, investor sentiment remained cautious as uncertainty continues to surround broader merger-related developments involving the company’s U.S. operations. While the spectrum exchange is viewed as strategically beneficial for improving service quality and operational efficiency, ongoing concerns over regulatory scrutiny and potential consolidation have overshadowed the positive milestone. Market participants are expected to closely monitor future decisions that could influence Deutsche Telekom’s long-term growth strategy and competitive position in the U.S. telecommunications market.

Huawei Unveils Wi-Fi 7 Royalty Framework to Accelerate Next-Generation Connectivity

Huawei has announced a transparent patent licensing framework for Wi-Fi 7 technologies, setting a royalty rate of US$0.50 per consumer-grade Wi-Fi 7 device. The company said implementers can obtain licenses either through bilateral agreements or patent pools under fair, reasonable, and non-discriminatory (FRAND) terms. Huawei stated that the move is intended to reduce licensing uncertainty, encourage broader adoption of Wi-Fi 7, and foster innovation across the wireless ecosystem. By the end of 2024, Huawei’s patent licensing agreements covered more than 1.2 billion consumer electronic devices worldwide, highlighting its significant role in global wireless intellectual property and next-generation connectivity standards.
