Ericsson will localize passive antenna production in India

Ericsson will localize passive antenna production in India by June 2025 and expand exports of 4G/5G gear via its partners Jabil and VVDN. Ericsson employs 22,500 people in India, including 2,000 in research, focusing on 5G, 6G, AI, and cloud infrastructure. The company is assisting Vodafone Idea in launching 5G in Delhi using Massive MIMO radios and replacing Huawei 4G gear. Ericsson also supports Vodafone Idea in multiple telecom circles including Kerala, Rajasthan, and Chhattisgarh. India contributes 7 percent to Ericsson’s global revenue. These efforts support local production and R&D within India’s telecom ecosystem, Moneycontrol reports.

Telefonica Investigates Cybersecurity Breach in Peru

Telefónica is reviewing a data breach involving 1 million leaked customer records from Peru. The hacker group “Dedale” claims to possess data from 22 million former users. Telefonica sold its Peru operations to Integra Tec International for €900,000 two months ago. This breach follows other recent attacks, including the October 2024 Salt Typhoon incident in the U.S. (affecting Verizon, AT&T, and Lumen) and a breach at South Korea’s SK Telecom affecting 23 million users. The U.S. FCC responded with calls for stronger telecom cybersecurity. Telefonica’s incident shows risks from outdated or divested assets and underscores the telecom sector’s need for investment in network security and proactive defense, Reuters reports.
