DE-CIX and IGC Form Thailand Joint Venture to Launch Bangkok Internet Exchange in 2027
DE-CIX and Thailand’s International Gateway Company announced a joint venture on October 28 to establish a new internet exchange in Bangkok. The facility, operating as DE-CIX Bangkok, is expected to become available across metropolitan data centers in mid-2027. The infrastructure will connect with existing DE-CIX exchanges in Singapore, Johor Bahru, Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Jakarta. It is intended to improve regional traffic exchange, reduce dependence on distant routing locations and strengthen connectivity between Thailand and neighboring markets. The operators expect the exchange to serve networks reaching Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Thailand. Contract value, initial port capacity, participating networks and the number of connected data centers were not disclosed.
KPN Fiber Network Reaches 6 Million Homes Passed in the Netherlands
KPN reported on October 28 that its fiber broadband network had reached 6 million homes passed, marking another milestone in the Netherlands’ fixed broadband modernization. The expansion strengthens the operator’s ability to migrate customers from legacy copper infrastructure to higher-capacity fiber connections. KPN continues investing in FTTH infrastructure while competing for broadband subscribers and expanding mobile services. During the third quarter of 2026, group service revenue increased 2.7 percent, while consumer broadband connections declined by approximately 7,000. Consumer and business postpaid mobile subscriptions increased by 66,000. The fiber milestone measures premises with network access rather than active subscribers. KPN did not disclose the construction cost associated specifically with reaching six million passings.
Federated Wireless AI Improves Element8 Fixed Wireless Installation Success Rate Above 90%
Federated Wireless announced on October 29 that its AI-powered Adaptive Network Planner had improved fixed wireless broadband installation performance at Element8. During a five-week deployment across Texas and Oklahoma, Element8’s installation success rate increased from 79 percent to more than 90 percent. The company reported that radio-frequency-related installation failures declined by more than half. The technology evaluates serviceability before technicians visit customer premises, using network and environmental information to predict whether wireless connections can be established successfully. Federated Wireless has invested approximately $5 million in research and development for the platform. The results demonstrate operational improvements rather than new network coverage. The companies did not disclose installation volumes or financial savings.
