Today’s telecom news includes announcements on Colt Technology Services, ROHL Gateway Fiber, Terrestar Solutions, BroadForward, among others.
Colt Expands Global Fiber Network to 55 Metro Networks with 400G Connectivity
Colt Technology Services has announced further investment in its global fiber network, extending connectivity across Europe, Africa, Asia, the Middle East and North America. The expansion includes a new point of presence in Johannesburg, South Africa, and a long-distance fiber route exceeding 600 kilometers between Osaka and Fukuoka, Japan. Colt is also expanding metropolitan infrastructure in Warsaw, Bordeaux, Zaragoza, Berlin and Frankfurt, bringing its global footprint to 55 metro networks. The operator is upgrading its Marseille–Milan fiber corridor and strengthening connectivity toward Dubai and Türkiye. Services support optical connections of up to 400 Gbps. Colt’s international infrastructure connects approximately 1,100 data centers, supporting hyperscale, cloud and wholesale network customers.
ROHL Gateway Fiber Expands Western Canada Network with 400G Optical Connectivity
ROHL Gateway Fiber has announced a major expansion of its dark-fiber network across Alberta, British Columbia and Saskatchewan, targeting data centers, telecommunications carriers and industrial infrastructure. The company is developing additional long-distance routes connected to its existing Edmonton-area network, including infrastructure serving Northern Alberta and British Columbia. The expansion will provide physically diverse fiber routes and optical wavelength services supporting multiple 400 Gbps connections. ROHL uses Ciena technology for its optical transport platform. Its portfolio includes dark-fiber indefeasible rights of use, Ethernet transport and custom network extensions. The operator has maintained regional infrastructure for more than 20 years. The announcement did not disclose the investment amount or additional route kilometers.
Terrestar Activates Satellite-Mobile Signaling Network to Extend Connectivity Across Canada
Terrestar Solutions has activated new signaling infrastructure supplied by BroadForward to connect satellite and terrestrial mobile networks across Canada. The deployment includes 4G Diameter routing and signaling-security functions, allowing mobile and IoT traffic to move between conventional cellular networks and Terrestar’s non-terrestrial infrastructure. Terrestar says more than 75 percent of Canada’s landmass lacks terrestrial mobile coverage. Its hybrid satellite-cellular IoT services are already operating in industrial and agricultural applications. The new infrastructure supports the company’s roadmap for consumer messaging, emergency alerts and future direct-to-device services. BroadForward’s signaling platform is deployed across more than 100 mobile operators and connectivity providers worldwide. Contract value and traffic capacity were not disclosed.
