Cloud-Powered Breakthrough: Citymesh Unveils World’s First 5G Core SaaS Mobile Service
Belgium’s Citymesh has launched what is being called the world’s first commercial mobile service built on a 5G Core software-as-a-service (SaaS) platform developed by Nokia and hosted on Amazon Web Services. The cloud-native solution replaces heavy upfront infrastructure investments with a subscription-based model, enabling rapid deployment, flexible scalability, automated upgrades, and programmable network capabilities. Citymesh will use the platform to strengthen connectivity for enterprise sectors including airports, healthcare, critical communications, and large venues, while also rolling out tailored mobile services for SMEs and self-employed professionals.
Global Telco Revenues Surge to $458.9 bn in 3Q25 Amid Strong Operator Growth
Global telecommunications industry revenues increased 3.7 percent year-over-year to $458.9 billion in the third quarter of 2025, reflecting steady demand and improved performance across major markets, according to the Global Telco Market Tracker. On an annualized basis, total industry revenue reached $1.81 trillion. Strong growth was recorded by Etisalat (24.0 percent) and Airtel (22.4 percent), alongside solid contributions from SoftBank, Deutsche Telekom and KDDI. However, operators such as Telefonica, Orange, Vodafone and America Movil reported weaker topline performance during the quarter.
